27 Nov 09 - Culture: Italian press visit the Azores with José Rodrigues dos Santos

A group of Italian journalists on a visit sponsored by the Regional Government are spending this weekend in the Azores to take a closer look at the places which inspired José Rodrigues dos Santos' latest novel.

A television journalist and news presenter for RTP in Lisbon, José Rodrigues dos Santos has also forged a successful career as a novelist.

His latest opus called Fúria Divina (Divine Fury) was published simultaneously by Gradiva in Portugual and Cavallo di Ferro in Italy. In both cases, the book was launched by ex-member of Al-Qaeda Abdullah Yusuf.

The novel, which examines the theological foundations of Islamic terrorism, has aroused considerable interest in Italy.

As some scenes are set in Sete Cidades and Furnas, the Regional Secretariat for Economy, the author and his Italian publisher invited seven Italian journalists to spend the weekend in São Miguel.

Television journalist Paolo di Giannantonio who hosts the Tg1 will represent public broadcaster RAI.

The group also includes journalists from national newspapers and magazines such as La Stampa, Il Messaggero di Roma, Il Libero, Il Sole 24 Ore, and Geo Metro. por: Kitty Bale
